Police Arrest 6 PDP Chieftains In Bayelsa
The crack in the organization of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State went deeper last week, when police stormed a meeting venue and arrested some chieftains of the party.
Among those arrested are Chief Fred Agbedi, the immediate past chairman of the party in the state, Douye Diri, a former commissioner, Hon Michael Ejeugule, a former member of the House of Representative, Mr Adolphus Of on- go, a former member of the state House of Assembly, Mrs Faith Opueme, former women leader and David Obuma, a former majority leader of the state House of Assembly.
The arrest of the chieftains, regarded as the arrow head of those opposed to Chief Timipre Sylva’s administration in the state, was effected by heavily armed policemen led by the Commandant of Government House Security, Mr Rueben Kemmer, a Deputy Superintended of Police (DSP).
According to the report, the arrested party members and others were in the house of David Obuma discussing at about 4pm, when the policemen arrived and surrounded the premises, ordering those in the meeting to stop, before taking them to Government House.
The men were said to have resisted going to Government House, preferring to go to Police headquarters, where they met the Commissioner of Police, Mr Udenka Onuoha.
They were all released at about 6pm, after chatting with the police boss, who The Tide learnt, later appologised to them.
The Tide also gathered that the arrest was ordered by a top government official who was said to have believed that the men were planning to disrupt the visit of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to the state.
