Tailor Bags Nine Months Imprisonment For Stealing Employer’s Laptop
A Dei-dei Grade 1 Area Court, Shagari Quarters, Abuja, yesterday, sentenced a 23-year-old Tailor, Abdulrasheed Mohammed, to nine months imprisonment for stealing his employer’s laptop.
The police charged Mohammed of Gwarinpa Village, Abuja, with theft by servant.
The judge, Sulyman Ola, who sentenced Mohammed after he pleaded guilty to the offence, however, gave him an option of a fine.
Ola said that for the offence of stealing, the defendant would pay N50,000 fine and in default; nine months in prison.
He said the judgment would serve as deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal acts.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the case was reported at Gwarinpa Police station on February 5, by Mrs Mary Nnennaya, of 24 crescent, Gwarinpa, Abuja.
Ogada said that the convict who was a personal tailor and employee of Nnennaya, criminally entered her sitting room and stole her Dell laptop valued at N270, 000.
The prosecutor added that Mohammed immediately ran to an unknown destination.
He told the court that during police investigation, the convict voluntarily admitted to the crime, and further confessed to have sold the laptop at N28, 000.
Ogada said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code Law.
