NDDC Retiree Faults Oil Firms, Govt On Rural Development
A retired senior staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr Napoleon Ekperi, has called on oil firms operating in Bayelsa State and the state government to award a contract for the construction of road to Assamabiri Communitiy of Sagbama council area of the state.
Ekperi who also tasked the member representing Sagbama Constituency three in the state House of Assembly to look into the plight of the community noted that the road was in a deplorable situation.
The former staff of the NDDC gave the charge during the burial ceremony of his late wife, Mrs Ebiye Ekperi at Asamabiri, noting that the comatose condition of the road leading to the community and adjoining areas has led to zero economic activities in the area.
He pointed out that a motorable road was germane to the socio-economic development of any society, adding that the Asamabiri community is lacking this very important infrastructure and therefore should be given prominent attention by the multinationals operating in the area as well as all relevant government agencies and stakeholders alike.
In the same vein, the Vice President of Asamabiri community, Charles Ebiaridoh has said that the Niger Development Commission awarded the contract for the construction of the road to Okmas Construction Company, saying upon the award some years ago, nothing has been done.
He revealed that all efforts to draw the attention of the state government and National Assembly members representing the area to the deplorable condition of the road yielded no positive impacts, calling on the NDDC, the state government and other stakeholders to look into the ugly plight of residents of the community.
Ebiaridoh hinted that the road when constructed is a short distance leading to Onitsha in Anambra State and would therefore make the Community and other nearby towns a beehive of economic activities.
