Monarch Lauds Wike, Nwanosike Over War On Illegal Bunkering
The Nyewali Ubima in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, King Nnamdi Omehia has commended the determination of the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to end the activities of illegal refineries, popularly called ‘Kpo fire’ in the state.
Omehia also said the efforts of the state governor would end the perennial health challenges facing the people of the state and restore cleaner environment in the state.
The Ubima monarch made this commendation in an interview with The Tidein Port Harcourt, yesterday,adding that the proactive measures taken so far by the state government was commendable, and would go along way to reduce and address the burden of ‘Kpo fire’ in the state.
“The state is battling with the soot challenge occasioned by the illegal refinery business, and this has brought pains, agony and health challenges to residents and people of the state”, he said.
The paramount ruler of Ubima assured the governor of his collaboration with other chiefs in the community and Ikwerre LGA in general to ensure that those who are involved the illegal business were made to face the full wrath of the law.
Omehia, however, commended the KELGA Chairman, Engr Samuel Nwanosike for his untiring efforts in enforcing the directive of the state governor with sense of dedication and determination by combing the entire communities and villages in local government area, and eliminating the scourge of illegal refineries.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
