RSG To Name Certified Water Factories, Soon
Rivers State Government says it will soon make public, names of certified water factories in the State as part of efforts in ensuring that the water served in the State ‘’is of highest quality’’’ and in protecting the health of residents of the State especially children.
Speaking at the Two Day Participatory Training wlWorkshop for Water Producers in Port-Harcourt, with the theme; Water Quality Management and Regulatory Compliance, Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Dr Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja said, the essence of the exercise is not for revenue making nor to shut out any water producer from bussiness but in santizing the sector.
Explaining further, Dr Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja said those whose’s water fall below standard, should take urgent steps to improve their services, urging those who will pass their laboratory test, to see it as an opportunity to expose quacks in the industry for the protection their investment.
The Water Resources and Rural Development Commissioner said, the Ministry is contacting network service providers who will assist to assign codes to accreditated water, adding that, plans are on top gear to commence an enlightenment campaign to raise the consciousness of members of the public when purchasing water.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Acting Director, Rivers State Water Service Regulatory Commission, Engr Amatemaso Emmanuel said, the objective of the workshop is to expose Water Operators on water quality management skills as a requisite for good manufacturing practice.
The training, Amatemaso Emmanuel added will provide participants with detailed understanding of statutory requirements of cost effective water treatment production that would ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and serve as a prerequisite for licensing.
On his part, the facilitator of the training and CEO, Eco Perfect, Mr Hanson Biambo called for systematic cleaning of water equipment, borehole, tanks amongst others and regular testing of water by producers to prevent contamination.
He equally urged participants to put into practise the lessons garnered from the training to enhance their production.
The workshop had practical sessions as participants who described the training as an eye-opener were made to test their water themselves.
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
