Amaechi Hails Wike’s Move To End Illegal Refineries In Rivers
The Onye Ishi Agwuru Igbo Kingdom in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, King Samuel Amaechi has commended Governor Nyesom Wike for taking proactive measures to end the soot challenge in the state.
Amaechi stated this while speaking with journalists in his palace at Igbo-Etche, yesterday.
He said the efforts of the governor need the support of everybody, including religious bodies, non-governmental organisations, community rights crusaders and youth bodies, among others.
The monarch, who doubles as the state chairman of TROPCOM, called on all community leaders and traditional institutions to join hands with the state governor in his quest to end the era of illegal crude oil refining activities in their areas as a means of eliminating the menace of soot in the state.
“Report those behind the illegal bunkering and crude oil refining in your areas to security operatives. Please, let people stop indulging in the illegal business because it is not friendly to our health.
“This soot is noticeable in our homes, skies across the state, in our clothes, cars due to the upsurge of the illegal bunkering operations in the state”, he stated.
The Igbo-Etche king called on the Federal Government and its intervention agencies to work with the state government to end the menace of soot in other to protect the people in the area.
The state TROPCOM helmsman assured the state governor of the support of his association in ensuring that the war declared against illegal bunkering business in the state was won, while encouraging traditional rulers across the state to support the governor in this fight, even as he commended the council chairmen and security agencies for their untiring efforts in the on-going war against illegal bunkering activities.
