Court Remands 10 Over Crude Oil Theft, Declines Jurisdiction

A Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court in Rivers State presided over by Chief Amadi Nna has declined jurisdiction on the matter involving 10 out of 18 suspects arraigned for oil bunkering.
He, therefore, remanded the 10 into custody at the Port Harcourt Maximum Correctional Centre.
Ten out of the 18 suspects were earlier paraded by the Rivers State Police Command for their alleged involvement in illegal oil bunkering activities.
The 10 were arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt on two-count charge of conspiracy and economic sabotage.
In a charge read out in court, Ali Abdullah and nine others were alleged to have conspired to defraud the Federal Government of revenue without lawful authority.
The suspects were alleged to have purchased or otherwise come into possession of an economic mineral; an offence which they said, was punishable under the Criminal Code and Miscellaneous Offences Act Law of Rivers State of Nigeria.
The suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges.
However, Chief Magistrate Amadi Nna declined jurisdiction to handle the matter, and ordered that the suspects be remanded in Port Harcourt Correctional Centre.
He, then, adjourned the matter sine-die.
