Wike, Making Rivers People Proud – Nsirim
Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, says Governor Nyesom Wike, has created a Rivers society where every Rivers man will be proud of.
Nsirim who said this at a get together party with members of the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Port Harcourt also called on Journalists in the State to uphold the highest level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
He said Governor Wike not only believes in a free press, but that media practitioners should be partners in progress.
Nsirim said journalists in Rivers State must protect the integrity of the profesion, adding that they must not succumb to monetary gains with a view to embarking on campaign of calumny in the State.
He said journalists as agenda setters must speak the truth always, stressing that arm chair criticism and playing to the gallery must not be encouraged.
“What we write will one day stand as a witness for us.
“We must use our God given assignment to help build a society where everyone will be safe and happy”.
The Commissioner thanked Journalists for being such wonderful allies in the past two years, noting that as agenda setters, journalists must not shy away from holding politicians accountable.
Nisirm who said he was one of the luckiest Commissioners in the country said he owed journalists a huge debt of gratitude.
Earlier, Chairman Caretaker Committee (CTC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, Mr. Amaechi Okonkwo described the information and communications commissioner as a major state holder in the NUJ in Rivers State.
Okonkwo urged the commissioner to sustain his relationship with the council. Also speaking, former Commissioner for Information and Communications and Publisher, Port Harcourt Telegraph Newspaper, Mr. Ogbonna Nwuke said private media will work hand in hand with that of the government to propagate government policies and programmes.
