Zamfara Bandit Kingpin Frees Over 70 Kidnap Victims
A suspected bandit leader, Bello Turji, who has been on the security wanted list, has freed over 70 victims in his custody in Zamfara State.
The development was disclosed by the Co-Chairman of the state Committee on Finding Lasting Solutions to Banditry, Dr. Abdullahi Shinkafi, yesterday.
Abdullahi told Channels Television, yesterday, that the victims were freed by the bandit kingpin unconditionally, stressing that the development was sequel to a military air raid on bandits’ camps in the state.
It was learnt that the military offensives had led to the death of two other notorious bandits while others were seriously injured.
According to reports, 70 victims were released following dialogue between the assailants and some local authorities in the state.
It was also gathered that arrangements are being made to evacuate all freed victims to the state capital, Gusau, for profiling and medical treatment before they are released to their families.
