Marina Decries Illegal Bunkering
A renowned marine safety officer in the Niger Delta region, Comrade Kings Dimkpe, says illegal bunkering activities in the waters are dangerous and poisonous to aquatic lives.
He said the poison emitting from the oil spills was harmful to human health.
The safety officer, in an interview in Port Harcourt, recently, noted that the spills from bunkering activities, apart from posing dangers to human life, also kill the aquatic and damage the engine boats of ships.
Comrade Dimkpe called on the security agents, especially the Nigerian Navy and and the marine police, to arrest and prosecute any one caught perpetrating the act.
He explained that the air inhaled from the spills are dangerous to the human health, affect the lungs, especially the children and the new born babies.
“These spills cause skin rashes, infection and contaminate the waters consumed by human and animals”, he said.
He appealed to those indulging in the menace to desist from polluting waters and the atmosphere, and embrace positive live styles.
The marina appealed to the Nigerian Navy and the Marine police to embark on surveillance and regular patrol of the rivers, channels and creeks to fish out the perpetrators of this act across the state.
