Edo Home Of Golf – Obaseki
The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, says “Edo is like a home of golf” and his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, at the weekend in Benin City, teed-off the Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament, which is part of activities lined up for the annual Alaghodaro Summit.
The annual summit, to mark the governor’s anniversary in office, showcases investment opportunities in the state and the numerous achievements, reforms and initiatives by the administration to improve the living standard of the people.
“You would note that every Alaghodaro Summit we invite a lot of guests from outside the state and keep them over the weekend so that they can have some Edo experience.
“Golf is a very sociable sport. Some of our guests play golf and even those that don’t play golf, stay around, spend the weekend and unwind after a very tough summit.
“As you can see, golf is one of the sports that is closely followed globally. With the notable achievements of Tiger Woods, it became popular with African Americans and Africans and there is quite a lot of sponsorship and support.”
“Golf is very environmentally friendly; it allows you green spaces to walk and exercise; it’s a sport that is globally recognised and played; we just want to popularise it in Nigeria,” Obaseki noted.
