Chartered Secretaries Seek Autonomy
The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) has initiated plans to commence its independent examination.
The move is part of efforts of the body to review its relationship with, and dependence on its parent body in London while gradually asserting its autonomy.
The new president of ICSAN, Deacon Moses Bamidele Adeisa announced this Tuesday in Lagos during his investiture as the 22nd President and Chairman of council of the institute.
Paying glowing tribute to his predecessor, Pastor Hakeem Ogunniran whom he was stepping into his shoes, as one who positively repositioned the institute, Adeisa said his road map would, of consequence, entail continuity and new initiatives.
He promised to commence the building of ICSAN National Secretariat at Alausa in Lagos, continue the development of the institute’s library and its IT programme and resuscitate moribund chapters.
The new president also pledged to renew alignment with regulatory authorities like the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Securities and Exchange Commission and the Corporate Affairs Commission, enlarge the student population through marketing efforts and ensure regular hosting of the institute’s Roundtable on Corporate Governance.
In his valedictory speech, the out-going president, Pastor Hakeem Ogunniran enumerated his achievements which included the reposition of the institute, restructuring of its secretariat, the commencement of the Roundtable on Corporate Governance and participation in public discourse among others.
Ogunniran who is Managing Director of MDS Plc, a subsidiary of UAC of Nigeria urged his successor to continue with outstanding projects while protecting the charter “to enable us wrestle our profession from the hands of interlopers”.
