RSG To Sponsor 2,000 Pilgrims … Starts Screening Today
No fewer than 2,000 persons would be sponsored by the Rivers State Government for this year’s Christian Pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
The Sole Administrator of the State Christian Welfare Pilgrims Board, Monsignor John Wangbu, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in his office in Port Harcourt, last Tuesday.
He also said that the board has already displayed the names of intending pilgrims at its secretariat and urged those who applied to check their names on the board.
Monsignor Wangba, further disclosed that the screening exercise would commence today through Thursday adding that, the early preparation for this year’s pilgrimage was to ensure that the board meet her first air-Lifting date and to thoroughly screen intending pilgrims.
“This year’s medical screening will be more serious than the previous ones because we want to ensure that everybody is medically fit before you can travel” Wangbu emphasised.
The sole administer also said that the board has acquired machines to check and detect those who have traveled to the Holy Land before, insisting that pilgrimage is purely for spiritual upliftment and not a jamboree or mere tourism.
“We have acquired machines that will detect those who had traveled before through tumb printing last year, we started it but the supplier of the machines did not supply the required equipment the stated.
