INTELS Joins Nigerian Chamber Of Shipping
Integrated Logistics Services (INTELS) Nigeria Limited has been admitted by the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS) as a corporate member.
Intels, a foremost ports operator and major logistics company in Nigeria with headquarters in Onne, Port Harcourt, brings to the chamber its wealth of experience in terminal and support base logistics in the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
In a press statement, signed by the Director, Advocacy for Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, Chinelo Amaka Chizea-Koko which was made available to The Tide, said in presenting the membership certificate to the Acting Managing Director, Intels, Mr. Simone Volpi, the Director General, NCS, Mrs. Ify Akerele, said that the admission of the company is based on the fact that Intels has remained a sustained supporter and a pillar behind the growth of Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone variously described as the largest and fastest growing free trade zone in the world.
In addition she noted Intels has made great efforts to encourage Foreign Direct Investment into Nigeria and the Onne Oil and Gas Free zone, attracting the industries leading companies, as well as indigenous ones to the free zone to take advantage of the excellent facilities on offer and the generous incentive benefits.
In response, while receiving the certificate, the acting Managing Director, Simone Volpi said before now as a result of Intels excellent performance in the development of the oil and gas free zone, the company was in May 2008 decorated with the Nigerian Institute of Local Content membership and corporate fellowship award, also the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Human Resource Development award for three years running, 2007 to 2009 in Rivers/Bayelsa States.
According to him, Intels has lived up to its social responsibility to the host communities which has fostered cordial relationship without any disruption of operation over the years, noting that the company had in the past constructed road networks, average of 15 boreholes annually, civic centres, town halls and traditional rulers palaces in the host communities, as well as award of over 200 scholarships annually to pupils/students in the area.

Blue Economy: Minister Seeks Lifeline In Blue Bond Amid Budget Squeeze

Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy is seeking new funding to implement its ambitious 10-year policy, with officials acknowledging that public funding is insufficient for the scale of transformation envisioned.
Adegboyega Oyetola, said finance is the “lever that will attract long-term and progressive capital critical” and determine whether the ministry’s goals take off.
“Resources we currently receive from the national budget are grossly inadequate compared to the enormous responsibility before the ministry and sector,” he warned.
He described public funding not as charity but as “seed capital” that would unlock private investment adding that without it, Nigeria risks falling behind its neighbours while billions of naira continue to leak abroad through freight payments on foreign vessels.
He said “We have N24.6 trillion in pension assets, with 5 percent set aside for sustainability, including blue and green bonds,” he told stakeholders. “Each time green bonds have been issued, they have been oversubscribed. The money is there. The question is, how do you then get this money?”
The NGX reckons that once incorporated into the national budget, the Debt Management Office could issue the bonds, attracting both domestic pension funds and international investors.
Yet even as officials push for creative financing, Oloruntola stressed that the first step remains legislative.
“Even the most innovative financial tools and private investments require a solid public funding base to thrive.
It would be noted that with government funding inadequate, the ministry and capital market operators see bonds as alternative financing.
