Expert Warns Nigerians Over Crypto Scheme
An investment expert in the crypto market, Revelation Ohio, has advised Nigerians to do due diligence on investment platforms through its portal before investing in crypto business.
He said the advice became imperative in view of what is happening in the digital currency market, pointing out that Nigerians had lost about N18 billion to Ponzi scheme operators in recent times.
Ohio who gave the advice while speaking at an investment forum in Port Harcourt on Sunday, noted that the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the Nigerian economy helped in the proliferation of Ponzi schemes in the country.
According to him, ponzi scheme offers unrealistic returns on investment to unsuspecting investors.
He advised investors to do proper investigations before investing in the scheme so as to curtail frauds associated with it.
He said the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) has a list of registered and legitimate operators on its website which ought to be consulted.
“Ponzi schemes are truly a big problem for our economy. It is very common to the extent that many of our citizens lose substantial sums to these schemes.
“Unfortunately, many of these Ponzi operators, once they give these mouthwatering promises, gullible investors put their money there, and they, unfortunately, lose it.
“Then they now come to us to lay their complaints. But just two minutes on the SEC capital market operator portal will help you confirm if they are genuine”, he said.
Ohio said that he was always on radio programme to educate the public on the digital currency market, adding that many people who follow his advice and instructions would never fall into any fraud.
He, however, urged SEC to continue to work with the relevant stakeholders to unlock capital market instruments in funding key infrastructure needs, noting that the crypto market is gradually taking over financial transactions, globally.
