Foundation Promotes Peace, Community Development
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Ogoni Humanitarian and Community Development Foundation (OHCDF), operating in Rivers State, Mr Nwile Josiah, says his foundation has touched many lives and promoted peace and development through its humanitarian services across communities in Khana Local Government Area of the State.
Josiah stated this last Friday in an exclusive interview with The Tide during the foundation’s one-day free medical outreach programme held at Nortem town hall, Bori.
He said that the foundation was founded based on his passion to improve the lives of the people in the area, saying that since 1995 when he left for overseas, he had been thinking on how to assist his people through humanitarian services so as to improve on their conditions of living.
“I have been thinking on how to assist my people since 1995 when I left for overseas. When I came back, I saw the situation of my people suffering especially in the area of medical needs due to the pollution of our land. I said no, I have to form a foundation so that I would be able to reach out to them,” he stated .
He stressed that the challenges facing the NGO almost stopped him from realising his age-long dream but the determination to add value to humanity had kept him flying.
According to him, the foundation has also empowered over 100 students of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic in Bori through donation of books and payment of tuition fees.
“My vision is to achieve a healthy and social, economically viable society for sustainable development in my state. My foundation will impact on people’s lives and help them to develop in life,” he said.
He thanked the people for coming out enmass during the free medical outreach programme and added that the foundation would also empower youths who are in need of help.
In his goodwill message, the Acting Secretary, Babbe Council of Traditional Rulers, Chief Saturday Ndookor, commended Josiah for setting up the foundation to assist the people, adding that with his age and experience, he had hardly seen a single person who is not a politician doing such a thing for their people.
“I am overwhelmed with the population I see here today participating in the programme. All we should do is to pray for him for God to protect him and see him through in life,” Ndookor said.
Also speaking, one of the beneficiaries, a farmer, Mrs Charity Lucky, expressed joy for the programme, saying that she did not know that an Ogoni son can have the idea of helping their fathers, mothers and children in the society.
