Asaba Airport Meets Global Stardards – Minister
The Asaba International Airport is on course and is in line with global standard, the Aviation Minister, Mrs Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi, said on Friday.
The minister made the remark when she visited Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta in Asaba, saying similar airports would be replicated in other states.
Accompanied by Directors and Heads of Departments of the Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), she said the team was in the state to ensure safety compliance at the airport.
“We are here to ensure safety compliance and global standardisation, which is what aviation industry believes in.”
“It is a global standard, and what we saw today is in line with global standard.”
“This airport is in line with the president’s vision of transformation because we have to transform aviation.”
“We will use it as a model to encourage other states.”
“Mr President’s vision is that we should have minimum of 70 per cent aerodrome airspace or helicopter base in all states and we intend to accomplish this in the next four years.’’
Oduah-Ogiemwonyi said that the vision of the industry was to engage the private sector at home and abroad to inject more funds in order to create employment.
In his response, Uduaghan congratulated the minister on her appointment and assured her that the state government would ensure that the airport maintained global standards.
He said that the airport was strategically located and commercially viable, “especially for people from Onitsha in Anambra.’’
Uduaghan said that with the commencement of skeletal services at the airport few days ago, flights had been over-booked.
