Nigerians Support For Democracy Excites Banigo
The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo says the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration was determined to continue to uphold the tenets of democracy throughout the duration of its tenure.
Banigo stated this in a goodwill message from the Government House in Port Harcourt, last Friday, to felicitate with Nigerians in commemoration of the 2021 Democracy Day.
According to the deputy governor, government at all levels and indeed all Nigerians must deliberately ensure that the democracy we fought so hard to attain in 1999 was not aborted because of the anti-democratic posture of some critical stakeholders in the polity.
Banigo, who insisted that the worst democratically elected government was better than the best military junta said the nation was at the threshold of losing our democracy because of the penchant of some political office holders to brazenly abuse power.
Banigo, however, expressed the hope that Nigeria would be great again if we intentionally strengthen the unique qualities that binds us together as a democratic nation and shun all anti-democratic tendencies, adding that all well-meaning Nigerians have the responsibility to ensure that our democracy works.
