Poly’s Governing Council Complex: Rector Extols Wike’s Strides
The Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic (CEAPOLY), PortHarcourt, has witnessed yet another milestone in its history with the construction of the over 400 capacity two-storey Governing Council Complex.
The complex is consist of office spaces, entrance porch, waiting porch, halls among others.
The Rector of the institution, Dr Samuel B Kalagbor said this and many other developmental projects in the institution were made possible through the unflinching support of the state governor, Nyesom Wike, in his strides to take the Polytechnic to greater heights.
Speaking during his welcome address at the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the construction of the complex in PortHarcourt, Monday, Kalagbor noted that the governor simultaneously approved and released funds for two major projects in the institution adding that the institution has witnessed tremendous growth, progress and value additions particularly with respect to the change of name of the institution to reflect it’s Polytechnic status.
He said” may i use this opportunity to thank His Excellency, the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for simultaneously approving and releasing funds for two major projects in the Polytechnic which are the construction of two-storey governing council building complex and the construction of internal roads and drainages in the Polytechnic. This is unprecedented in the history of the institution”.
Kalagbor maintained that the ground breaking ceremony marked a major turning point in the history of the Polytechnic under the Senator Lee Maeba led governing council which he said had worked tirelessly and in synergy to ensure growth and development in the institution.
The CEAPOLY rector who recalled that the former governing council building was blown off in May, 2018, by a heavy rain storm causing lifescale havoc on campus resulting in the destruction of many facilities including buildings, cars and other materials said however that the council had remained committed despite the hurdles in meeting venue.
“From this period till today, the governing council has been holding it’s meetings in the library resort centre.
This Is undeserving of the governing council. Despite this, the chairman and members of the governing council have continued to work tirelessly for the continuous growth and development of the Polytechnic. One of the fruits of their relentless efforts is the construction of the complex”, he said.
Laying the foundation of the complex, the Chairman, Governing Council, CEAPOLY, Senator Lee Maeba revealed that the governor has approved the sum of #200m for the furnishing of the complex upon completion.
Maeba said “ this building, according to the advice of the builders will be completed within five months at which time we will be here again to commission it and the governor, Nyesom Wike, has asked me to announce that he has approved an additional sum of #200m to furnish this complex as soon as it is finished”.
