RSG Seeks Downward Review Of Sachet Water Price
The Rivers State Government has directed water producers operating in the state to immediately review the recent price hike of sachet water.
The state Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Dr Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja, said the directive became necessary to reduce the burden on members of the pubic, while ensuring that residents have access to affordable, good drinking water in the state.
Gogo-Jaja said the state government’s water reticulation project was ongoing, adding that the ministry was also embarking on the restoration of water at the State Secretariat Complex.
In their remarks, the state Chairman of Water Producers’ Association of Nigeria (WPAN), Mr Egberi Odiri-Mackson, and his counterpart for the Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria (ATWPN), Mr Agape Onuh, said they would liaise with their members for the next line of action.
It would be recalled that currently, a sachet of water sells for N20 against the former price of N10 while a bag of sachet water increased from between N120 and N150 to about N180 and N200 after the water producers started a warning strike on April 27 to protest incessant harassment by the state task force officials and the high cost of production.
