Ministry Partners RSNC On Publicity
The Rivers State Ministry of Environment is to partner with the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC) to ensure adequate coverage and reportage of its activities.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Nduye Christie Tobin Briggs, said this during a courtesy call by the management of the corporation to his office in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
Briggs, who described The Tide Newspaper as an important organ of information, said activities of the ministry cover lots of areas ranging from environmental pollution to oil spillages.
According to him, the public needs to be informed of what the ministry was doing in core areas.
The permanent secretary also commented on the increasing rate of oil spills in the state, stressing that the ministry will enlist the support of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation to sensitise the people on the dangers of oil spills, illegal oil bunkering and other nefarious environmental activities.
Earlier, the General Manager of the corporation, Chief Ernest Chinwo, had said the visit was to seek for mutual collaboration for the growth and developments of the state.
Chinwo said as a strategic ministry, the general public needs to be sensitised on its activities
He said The Tide Newspaper, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, was the only surviving state-owned newspaper in both the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria.
He said the corporation can collaborate with the ministry in the area of publicising its activities as well as printing of its documents such as office flat files, diaries and others.
The general manager also said that the 50th anniversary of the newspaper would also be used to advance the cause of the corporation.
