BMTA Begs Wike To Reopen Bonny Jetty Halls
The Bonny Maritime Transport Association (BMTA), has appealed to the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to open the Bonny Jetty Booking and Waiting Halls to the public.
BMTA noted that since the commissioning of the jetty by the governor, the booking and waiting halls had been under lock and keys.
The Marine Safety Officer, BMTA, Comrade Kings Dom, made this known during an interview with The Tide.
“The booking and waiting halls at the Bonny jetty, Port Harcourt are under lock and keys as I speak till today”, he said.
Dom lamented that passengers and drivers were subjected to stay under the rains and sun due to the closure of booking and waiting halls.
He appealed to the governor to intervene by ordering the reopening of the facility to ease the pains faced by jetty operators.
According to him, the prompt intervention of the governor would save lives and enhance income generation from the jetty.
Comrade Dom said the closure of the halls had negatively affected operations as most passengers had diverted to alternative use of the jetty.
He accused the state Ministry of Transport of locking the halls against the public.
He also noted that drivers and passengers operate without toilet facility in the jetty, describing the situation as unfriendly.
