RSG, UNICEF Target 84,402 Immunisation, Birth Reg Services
The Rivers State Government together with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), have said that an estimated 84,402 immunisation and birth registration services would be delivered in four UNICEF Field Office states.
The State Commissioner for Finance overseeing the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Barr. Isacc Kamalu, revealed this at a One-Day High Level Advocacy Meeting, organised for Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries of finance in the four UNICEF Rivers Field Office.
Kamalu noted that the meeting was for the development of Work Plan for four states, including, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers States in the four UNICEF Rivers Field Office, in Port Harcourt.
The Commissioner was optimistic that the Work Plan would enhance developmental activities along the “UNICEF Mandate for improved delivery services to mothers and children as well as an agreed plan of action for UNICEF states”.
He thanked UNICEF and participating states for their attendance and urged them to be resourceful, while expressing hope for a smooth implementation.
Also speaking, the UNICEF Rivers Field Office Officer, Dr. Audu Anslem, stated that UNICEF was committed to supporting state governments on social protection and adequate health care delivery to women and children in Nigeria.
Anslem, however appealed to the governments of participating states to garner support for UNICEF to enable women’s safe delivery and children’s immunisation to keep polio at zero.
On her part, the Coordinator, Baby Friendly Initiative Committee, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Prof. Alice Nte, observed that the Baby Friendly at UPTH had provided access in institutional intervention for 179,000 clients.
