Commissioner HailsWike On Healthcare
The State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Chike Princewill, says why resident doctors in the state did not join the strike like their counterparts in other parts of the country was because of the efforts of Governor Nyesom Wike in the health sector.
Chike dropped the hint during a courtesy visit by members of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists that (NAWOJ), Rivers State Chapter, in his office.
He called on journalists to exercise their mandate as the fourth estate of the realm, by reporting the ills in the society, while amplifying good government policies.
He expressed dismay at the sorry state of medical facilities in the country, adding there should be medical facilities for proper health care delivery for all Nigerians.
Chemists, laboratory scientists and pharmacists have hijacked the job of professional doctors by converting their stores to hospitals at the same time, carrying out tests and prescribing drugs to patients,” he said.
The commissioner who lauded the state sovernor, enjoined members of NAWOJ to promote all the projects that the state government has embarked upon since 2015 till date expressed readiness of the state Ministry of Health to partner with NAWOJ for proper dissemination of information on health issues for the benefit of the society.
Speaking earlier, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Rivers State Chapter, Mrs Susan Serekara-Nwikhana, stated that the executive members of the association were in his office to partner with the ministry on issues affecting the health of women and girls in the society.
