Nsirim Carpets Amaechi Over Indebtedness To Pensioners, Workers

Commissioner for Information and Communications of the State, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, has said that the former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi left behind five months backlog of pension arrears and three months of unpaid salaries of civil servants in 2015.
Nsirim made the disclosure in a statement in Port Harcourt on Tuesday while reacting to an allegation of campaign of calumny against Amaechi made by Professor Henry Ugboma, Chief Medical Director (CMD), University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).
Ugboma had alleged that Wike’s campaign of calumny against Amaechi began as a project at the inception of his administration in which he served as a member of the transition committee.
However, Nsirim said the current Minister of Transportation did not hand over government to the incumbent which led to the paucity of information.
The Commissioner reminded that it was only in the State that a formal transition could not be carried out in the country which gave birth to the doctrine of necessity.
According to Nsirim, the development prompted Governor Nyesom Wike to scratch through the judicial process in order to access relevant documents for a proper take-off of government.
He said the Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by the current administration in the state was aimed at putting the records straight.
He recalled that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi lost his appeal to stop the execution of the report of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry which indicted him, both at the High Court and the Court of Appeal. The matter is currently before the Supreme Court.
