Team Rivers’ Top Four Status Under Threat
As the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival draws to a close this evening, Team Rivers, who had entertained high hopes of being very competitive and finishing tops at the fiesta, is under threat of dropping out of the top four bracket.
The team had comfortably occupied the fourth position on the medals log since the third day of the games but may lose the spot on the last day.
As at press time, Oyo State, which recorded a harvest of medals, particularly gold, including 16 in one day, is just one more gold from equalling Team Rivers’ haul, and two from over-taking them on the table.
Oyo’s performance so far has seen them breaking their records at previous sports festivals and setting a new mark for the state.
For Rivers, Edo 2020 has turned into a disappointment when compared to her performances at recent past editions of the competition.
