Ekiti Director of Sports, Benjamin Adewunmi, says there is still hope for the state which has a silver and five bronze medals at the close of events on Tuesday at the 17th National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt.
Our correspondent eports that as at Tuesday, Ekiti was occupying the 27th position on the medals table.
Adewumi said that though their expectations had not been fully met, Team Ekiti was hopeful of winning more medals.
“All hope is not lost and we are still sure of winning more medals,’’ he said on Wednesday in Port Harcourt.
“We thank God for what he is doing currently and we are not doing badly, except that our expectations have fallen short but then, all hopes are not lost.
“We are already on the medals table. We have one silver and we have won about six bronze medals and we are still in contention .
“We still have about six of our boxers in the quarter-finals and that is a medal zone.
“Two of our golfers are still on course. Chess, we are doing well there and I pray that at the end of the day, we are coming out as we planned initially,’’ he said.
Adewumi said the Main and Local Organising Committees had tried their best to ensure a successful hosting of the Games in spite of initial challenges encountered.
He said that Team Ekiti would not disappoint the people, adding that the contingent was eager to make the people of the state happy, especially Gov. Kayode Fayemi.
