RSG Seals Three Petrol Stations Over Price Hike
The Rivers State Government has sealed three fuel stations in Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt local government areas, for selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as fuel above the approved pump price of N162.
The state commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Dr Peter Medee, disclosed this in a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt.
He said the fuel stations were caught in the act, when he led a team of taskforce, on an inspection tour of some petrol stations in the state.
The commissioner, stated that government will not allow petrol dispensers to inflict more hardship on residents of the state, by shortchanging them.
He called on residents to report any fuel station, selling fuel above the approved price, as the state government is out and ready to deal with anyone found wanting.
Reacting, some residents of the state praised the government’s action, saying that it woulkd serve as a deterrent to others who may want to capitalise on the vulnerability of ignorant motorists and product users to make brisk business.
They tasked the government to intensify monitoring of other filling stations involved in the unwholesome conduct with a view to apprehending and prosecuting them, advising that products from such filling stations should be given to the public for free.
Meanwhile, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Bauchi Office, has cautioned petroleum marketers in the state against unauthorised increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) or petrol.
The Operations Controller in the office, Malam Abdullahi Iliyasu, said this in an interview with newsmen in Bauchi, yesterday.
Iliyasu maintained that N162 remains the official pump price per litre of the commodity.
He said the Federal Government has not increase the price of the commodity and warned that any marketer found short changing consumers would be sanctioned appropriately.
The controller said that the department would intensify surveillance across the 20 local government areas of the state to ensure compliance with the existing price regime.
He said that toward this, the office would work closely with relevant stakeholders for effective monitoring of depots and retail outlets for strict compliance with extant rules of the department.
Iliyasu, however, commended the state chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association (IPMAN) for its cooperation with the department.
