Rivers Guber Election: Tribunal Fixes July 12 For ACN’s Withdrawal Motion
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has fixed July 12 for the hearing of the withdrawal motion filed by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Governorship candidate, Dr. Abiye Sekibo against the Election of Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.
In his affidavit attached to the motion for withdrawal of the petition before the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, Dr. Abiye Sekibo said his withdrawal of the petition was based on personal reason.
The secretary of the tribunal, Mrs. Rita Adegbite who confirmed this to The Tide said the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has never heard the motion, stressing that since the Election Petition Tribunal has not heard the motion for withdrawal, Dr. Abiye Sekibo has not formally withdrawn his petition before the Tribunal.
The ACN and its Governorship candidate had sought for the nullification of Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi’s victory at the polls and sought for re-run Governorship Election in the State.
The state chairman of the Labour Party, Prince Reuben has described the nuthdrawal of the ACN Governorship petition as a positive political development in the state.
Prince Reuben stated that there is need for the major political stakeholders to support Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s transformative agenda in the state to uplift the state to greater height.
The Labour Party chairman added that Rivers people must support the Amaechi’s administration especially in areas of security of lives, and property, poverty alleviation and infractructural development.
