Mrs Amaechi Bags Woman Of Valour Award
Wife of Rivers State governor Dame Judith Amaechi has charged Nigerians in Diaspora to rise up and contribute to the development of a new Nigeria.
Mrs. Amaechi stated this in Atlanta Georgia United States of America while receiving the 2011 edition of the Woman of Valour Award organised by the Nigerian Women Association in Georgia (NWAG) United States of America.
She said Nigerians residing outside the country possess enormous responsibility to use their skills and expertise to develop their fatherland.
According to her, “Nigerians must rise up to be patriotic and use their talents, skills and expertise to develop the country”.
Mrs. Amaechi frowned at destructive criticism from Nigerians abroad who do not bother about participating in governance, and added that opportunities are abound for citizen to contribute to the development of the country.
“This is a new regime, we cannot sit here and criticize our leaders, we are breathing new fresh air in Nigeria and we cannot sit in the US or any other part of the world to criticize our leaders, we must come home and use our experience and expertise from foreign land to develop our home, we must rise up and the time is now”.
The Rivers First Lady stated the award on her will inspire her to a greater height.
The governor’s wife thereafter was treated to a luncheon by the Nigeria’s Consular General in the state of Georgia, United States of America, Hon. Geoffrey Teneilabe who eulogied her good works through the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) .
High point of the award ceremony was a civic reception held in her honour by the Rivers State Community in Atlanta Georgia.
Addressing the people, Mrs. Amaechi preached unity and love among Rivers people and charged them to make meaningful contribution to the development of the state.
The visit also afforded the citizens an opportunity to interact with the first lady on the state government development agenda for its citizenry.
Climax of the event was the formation of Rivers State Women in Atlanta Georgia United States to foster peace and unity as well as a spring board for charting a new course for the development of women and children.
The award ceremony was attended by the Nigerians living in the united states and top government functionaries.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
