Tears, As Truck Crushes Tricycle Driver
Tears flowed freely after an unidentified commercial tricycle driver was crushed by a truck in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital last Friday morning.
The Tide correspondent gathered that the incident occurred in front of the Slaughter Market at Eliozu, along the East West Road axis of the State.
Eye witnesses narrated to The Tide Correspondent that the man was attempting to cross to the other side of the road when the truck ran over him, causing a serious gridlock for over some hours, leaving motorists stranded.
It was also gathered that the truck driver attempted to flee the scene, but was held by the traders in the market who almost had him lynched, if not for the intervention of policemen.
Passers-by, traders and other keke drivers were shocked at the incident, with tears running down their eyes uncontrollably.
When contacted, spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni who confirmed the incident to The Tide correspondent described the incident as a fatal crash, noting that the corpse of the keke driver had been deposited in the mortuary.
“Yes, I can confirm. It was a fatal motor accident where the keke man ran into a trailer. He died before he could receive medical attention. His body has been taken to the mortuary for preservation.
“The trailer has been impounded and the truck driver is in detention. Investigation is ongoing,” Omoni, a Superintendent of Police (SP) stated.
