Imbibe Good Behaviour, Commissioner Tells Youths
The Rivers State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Tonye Briggs-Oniyide, has charged students in secondary schools to imbibe good behaviour.
Oniyide gave the charge at this year’s Practical Leadership Awards for Youths, PLAY, organised by the Havids in conjunction with the Rotary Club of South West, USA, in Port Harcourt.
The commissioner who was represented by a director in the ministry, Mrs Ibim Ebietoma said good behaviour was a prerequisite for success in their academics
She thanked the organisers for putting together the youths’ leadership awards event and enjoined other non-governmental organisations to borrow a leaf from Havids Center for Environment and Development and Rotary Club of South West in Port Harcourt
In his welcome address, the Executive Director, The Havids, Mr. Harry Awolayeofori, said that the Practical Leadership Awards for Youths, with the theme, ‘Making Our Community Work in Difficult Times’, was put together to encourage the youths become better future leaders.
According to him, “our target is the future leaders, this award is to encourage the youths to become better leaders and also to promote peace and environmental sustainability”.
On his part, the guest speaker, Mr. Tom Inko-Tariah, told the students, it was important that they took their education seriously, and also stressed the need to be of good behavior.
In a goodwill message, President of Rotary Club of Southwest, USA, Kim Covill, noted that this was the second year the club was partnering with The Havids and expressed the hope that the partnership would continue to inspire and energise young leaders in Nigeria.
High point of the event was the presentation of awards to those who distinguished themselves and certificates to all participants.
