Jonathan Attends AU Summit, Today
President Goodluck Jonathan will today leave Abuja for Malabo, Equatorial Guinea to attend the 17th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
A statement from the Presidential Villa, Abuja yesterday said the President would participate in the NEPAD Heads of State and Government meeting as well as the African Peer Review Forum in Malabo.
It said Jonathan would also meet with the Nigerian community in Malabo.
Our correspondent reports that the summit, with the theme, “Accelerating Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development,” is slated for June 30 to July 1.
The leaders are expected to deliberate on how to ensure better environment and skills acquisition for the African youth for self-reliance.
They will also discuss how the youths can be useful in contributing meaningfully to peace, security, socio-economic growth and sustainable development in the continent.
Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea are endowed with oil and gas, and are members of the Gulf of Guinea Commission.
