COVID 19: Chairman Distributes Palliatives To Residents

In a bid to cushion the effect of the lockdown as a result of the Corona virus pandemic, the Oyigbo Local Government Council has distributed food items worth millions of naira to over 2000 vulnerable persons in the area.
Items distributed include bags of rice, tubers of yam, bags of beans, garri and cartons of indomie, amongst others.
Presenting the items to the beneficiaries which include indigenes and non indigenes, chairman of the Council, Prince Gerald offorji said the gesture was to complement the effort of the state Governor Chief Nyesom Wike at cushioning the effect of the lockdown on the people.
According to him, the situation was in line with Governor Wike’s directive to reduce pains and hunger in the state.
‘’As a community person, I decided to distribute the food items myself in making sure that the vulnerable as directed by the Governor benefit materially’’ he said.
offorji, also said that the items were shared across party lines stated that everyone in the area, irrespective of party affiliations benefited from the gesture.
The council chairman urged the people to continue to maintain personal hygiene through regular hand washing keep social distance as well as the use of face mask.
He also called on them to report any suspected cases to the state government and the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
