Amaechi Urges Commitment In Marriage
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, says every successful marriage is built on obedience and commitment of the couple to God and to each other.
Governor Amaechi stated this last Saturday during a wedding ceremony between former Miss Mnakur Tsakr and Squadron Leader Abang Oyong at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, he advised couples to respect the marriage institution, especially after declaring it for people to witness in the church and at the reception, stressing that wrong things begin to happen in marriages when couples begin to indulge themselves in disobedience to God and unfaithfulness to their partners.
Speaking at the reception, where he was the special guest of honour, Governor Amaechi charged the new couple to hold on to God, saying that as long as they do this, God would bless their marriage.
He commended the parents of the couple for bringing them up to the age of marriage, noting that ‘this is the joy of good parenting”, enjoining the couple to always pray together in order to achieve their set goals.
Also speaking, the chairman of the wedding reception; Dr Oshita O. Oshita, admonished the couple to always have hope, faith and love, saying that as long as they put their trust in God, He would always bless them.
Representative of the Governor officiated the cutting of cake at the colourful reception conducted in the tradition of the armed forces at NAFOWA Centre, Yakubu Gowon Barracks, Asokoro, Abuja.
Dignitaries at the occasion include the Chief of Training, Defence Headquarters, Major General Ngubane and other senior officers of the Armed Forces.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
