Police Move To Enforce Govt’s Diretives On COVID-19 Order Release Of Suspects In Abia

The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Ene Okon, yesterday, directed routine visits and patrols to check the level of compliances at all levels as directed by the State government.
Okon also called for release of all suspects involved in bailable offences and screening of those arrested for heinous offense before detention as well as restriction of social costs to all police stations and formations in the interim.
The directive was contained in a press release issued by the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of the State command, SP Ogbonna Geofrey and made available to newsmen in Umuahia.
Abia Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu had in a report by the Inter-ministerial Committee in fight Against COVID-19 disease, banned night club activities as among precautionary measures mapped out by the Inter-ministerial Committee in fight against Coronavirus pandemic.
According to the report, which read, “No burials, weddings and other ceremonies, for the next 4 weeks, should involve more than 30 persons who must ensure that they sit/stand at least 1.5m apart from each other. Security agents have been briefed to ensure full enforcement.”
The Commissioner emphasized that the threat of Coronavirus pandemic in the society was real, appealing to all members of the public to key into the advice of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led government and the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu against falling victim of the pandemic.
“We are all aware of the seriousness of this dreaded pandemic on the socio-economic and religious lifestyle of our people.
“The directive on the temporary closures and restrictions on certain economic religious, social and educational institutions in the state need to be obeyed without waiting for any use of force or promptings from any security agency.”
