WAEC Bars Visitors From Offices Nationwide
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has barred visitors from its offices nationwide to guard against the Coronavirus disease.
A statement signed by the Head of National Office (HNO), Mr. Patrick Ehidiamen Areghan yesterday noted that some workers would be available to attend to registration for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates 2020.
The statement reads: “In the light of the global Corona Virus pandemic (COVID-19), the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria has followed international protocols, including the recommended health and safety measures by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), for social distancing and keeping the work environment safe for staff and stakeholders.
“In addition to steps already taken, the Council has decided to take the following extra measures to forestall the spread of the disease:
1. Visitors will not be allowed into the Council’s offices nationwide, beginning from tomorrow, March 24, 2020. The general public is advised to take advantage of available online channels for enquiries, etc; 2. Some staff have been placed on essential duties to accommodate schools registering candidates for the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2020.”

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
