Agency Warns Against Dumping Refuse In Drainages

The Rivers State Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Agency has warned the public against dumping of refuse into drainages.
Chairman of the Agency, Prince Timothy Nsirim gave the warning while supervising the desilting of drainages along Mile 4 market junction road, Port Harcourt.
Nsirim said overflow drainages were responsible for the several cracks on roads in the city, stressing that residents of the state must help the government by ensuring that drainages are free of debris.
He also promised to collaborate with relevant government agencies to ensure that drainages were effectively desilted to ensure free flow of water.
He said the Rivers State Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Agency was prepared to partner with the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) in some areas where the drainages were in bad shape.
Meanwhile, Prince Timothy Nsirim has called on the general public to assist the government in ensuring zero potholes on Rivers roads.
He said they could do this by ensuring the continuous desilting of drainages and gutters in their vicinities.
According to him, the state government is spending millions of naira to ensure the maintenance of roads across the state.
Nsirim said this during an inspection of rehabilitated roads in Rukpokwu along SARS road.
According to him, time has come for residents of the state to imbibe the culture of desilting of drainages to avoid the clogging of water on roads.
He also declared that the Agency is working hard to achieve the Operation Zero Pothole mandate of the state governor.
