Rivers ACN Lied, Says Wike
The Director General of the Amaechi Re-election Campaign Organisation, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike has described the allegations levelled against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the State Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) as baseless and without an iota of truth.
Chief Wike stated this yesterday in Port Harcourt few hours after the ACN state chairman, Mr Uche Okwukwu held a press briefing wherein allegations of intimidation were levelled against the state governor and some members of the ruling PDP.
The Director-General explained that the context of the press briefing was based on hearsay and concocted lies to deceive the public and challenged the ACN to mention names of people who allegedly used monetary inducement, harassment on voters as well as campaigned at the polling units.
He equally debunked insinuations that Governor Amaechi met with Electoral Officers (EOs) at government house, noting that the allegations were based on speculation and fear of losing the election as they saw the massive turn out of PDP voters waiting patiently for the arrival of electoral materials before the election was postponed.
According to Chief Wike, the false allegations smack of a drowning party that has no followership and advised the ACN to start preparing for 2015 election because Rivers people have made their choice to vote Amaechi and all the PDP candidates.
He wondered how the chairman of ACN could fabricate those lies in an attempt to deceive the public when materials for the National Assembly election were not distributed by INEC before the election was cancelled, emphasising that Rivers people want their votes to count this time around as no amount of blackmail will distract them from protecting their votes.
The director-general said the opposition were intimidated by the level of campaign carried out by the PDP, which went to all the local government headquarters, ward to ward, village to village and door-to-door to solicit for votes from the electorate, advising ACN to concede defeat, as Governor Amaechi’s towering achievement made the campaign easy.
“The allegations are lies because the governor never met with the electoral officers an anywhere, I call them alarmists, the presiding officers are corpers, however, PDP is not interested in who conducts the election, the important thing is free and fair election and we trust that we shall win”, Chief Wike stated.
On sealing of the ACN campaign office, Chief Wike said, neither the state government nor the PDP can be linked to the court process between the Obio/Akpor Council and the property owner, stressing that the ACN has earlier filed preliminary objections in court but when they lost the case, they turned round to accuse government and PDP.
