Remediation Works Begin On SARS, PH Town Roads
As part of its mandate to fill all potholes in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Road Maintenance Agency has started remediation work on SARS Road by Obiri Ikwerre/Airport Road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Tide reports that personnels and equipment had been mobilised to site by the agency to desilt the drains.
Speaking to newsmen at the site in Port Harcourt on Monday, the Chairman, Rivers State Road Maintenance Agency Hon Timothy Nsirim explained that the cause of the delay of the repair job was as a result of water logging in the area, promising that by the weekend, the road would be ready for use.
He said, “The SARS axis of the road has been blocked for some time now, so we are desilting it. After desilting, we will cut the road and start filling and compacting. The filling and compaction will take one and half days and in three days, the road will be ready for use, and by the weekend, the job will be completed”.
Nsirim also said that work is on-going at the Port Harcourt Old Township roads, assuring that he will ensure that all the roads in the area are fixed soonest, as he warned residents in the area not to throw their refuse into drainages or burn tyres on tarred roads.
According to him, “If you go to Port Harcourt Old Township, you will see what we are doing; we are on course, but the problem we are facing is the people within the environment, they direct their water on the road. We are writing the affected compounds to direct their water to the drain because those water waste are affecting the road negatively, and our roads must be protected”.
Meanwhile, the chairman, has debunked the rumour going around that the agency is being starved of funds by the governor, saying, “you see, people cry more than the bereaved, the agency has not told anybody that we are short of funds; there are processes in doing job, even the multinational company like Julius Berger have processes. If we meet the laid down process, government will give us money. People should stop carrying fake rumour, their business should be to draw the attention of the agency to potholes on the road”.
