The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, reiterated the commitment, yesterday, when he played host to the Dean, Faculty of Law and executive members of the Law Students Association, University of Port Harcourt chapter, in his office in Port Harcourt.
Danagogo stressed that the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration would continue to uplift the educational sector through critical intervention on projects and human capital development, as a way of securing the future of the state.
Reiterating the quest of the government to give tertiary and basic education priority, the SSG stated that everything would be done to lift the state to greater standard.
He described the University of Port Harcourt’s Faculty of Law as an institution that would impact on the state in many respects.
On the request by the dean and students’ union body for government support, he said, “as a detribalised governor who pushes for the growth of all sectors of the economy, I have no doubt that the governor’s passion to see the future establishment of the Law Faculty would follow concrete actions.
“We can always be sure that the governor will do what he says,” Danagogo maiantianed.
On his part, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Lucky Worika thanked the Rivers State Government for embarking on the construction of the Law Building, urging him to ensure the project was delivered as promised.
Worika said the faculty was the youngest in the school having been established four years ago, nonetheless, it has over the years produced graduates across the nation.
President of the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria, Comrade Ojochegbe Goodnews pleaded with the governor for the establishment of a Students’ Chambers in the governor’s name.
Goodnews reasoned that the Wike Chambers for students, if established, would serve as avenue for student lawyers to benefit from the enormous wealth of the governor’s legal experience.
