Group Decries FG’s Neglect Of UNIPORT’s Host Community

A group, Concerned Rivers Assembly People (CRAP) has accused the federal Government of neglecting the Ikwerre, host community of the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport) in Rivers State.
This was contained in a statement signed by Henry Horsford and Edmund Wami, President General and Secretary General of CRAP respectively and made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt.
The statement said no indigene of Ikwerre has been appointed Vice Chancellor of Uniport since inception of the institution till date, stressing the need for one of its kinsmen to be considered especially as the tenure of the current Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ndowa Lale is wounding up.
CRAP further said the Ikwerres had seasoned administrators and academics such as Prof. Kinikanwo Anele who can man the position of Vice Chancellor of Uniport, expressing optimism that he will bring his wealth of experiences to bear.
The statement reads, “As the tenue of the current Vice Chancellor of the Uniport comes to an end soon, concerned Rivers Assembly People is using this medium to bring to the fore the sterling qualities of Prof Kinikanwo A. Anele purposely to alert the Federal Government and the general public to the install him as the next vice chancellor of Uniport, Rivers State.
“The clamour for the appointment of the erudite professor of sociology from the Uniport as the institution’s next vice chancellor is not only because of his robust pedigree especially as regards his administrative prowess, but also because no Ikwerre indigene has ever attained that exalted position right from inception of the institution in 1975 till date.
