Dame Amaechi Takes Childhood Education Campaign To UN
Wife of Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has taken the advocacy campaign on the early childhood nursery education to the 55th Session of the United Nations Commission on the status of women holding at the United Nations Headquarters New York, United States of America.
Mrs Amaechi, who is already attending the UN event, will through her NGO, the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) organised CSW 55 parallel event at the same venue.
The Parallel event with the theme “Access to Education of Girls, a right or a privilege: the ESI Approach” is aimed at providing insight into the success of the ESI mass literacy programme for children between the ages of 3 – 6.
The forum will also provide an interactive session among other participating Nongovernmental Organisations (NGOs) and nations on their experiences on the education of the girl-child.
Mrs Amaechi, who is the Founder of the Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI), a Nongovernmental Organisation said the event tagged “Let’s discuss” is her NGO’s contribution to providing scholar inputs to the challenges affecting the girl-child and rural education in Nigeria.
Lead presentation will be made by Country Vice President, FIDA Nigeria, Mrs Ezinnwa Okoroafor, while Mrs Amaechi will talk on her experiences with the early child education.
ESI recently organised the first national conference on the kindergarten education in Nigeria and was declared open by President Goodluck Jonathan.
This was sequel to the Unicef reports that 4.7 million are not in school and 11 million cannot read and write.
ESI has graduated pioneers of its kindergarten pilot scheme and currently building . permanent structure in each ward”‘ of the 23 LGA.
The event will also be used to launch the “adopt a child initiative” to solicit support of NGOs other well meaning individuals, and organisation to adopt the education of less privileged children who cannot access basic education.
