Lecturers Decry Security lapses In Rivers
Lecturers of the Rivers State College for Arts and Science (CASS) Rumuola Port Harcourt, have called on the Rivers State Government to urgently address the challenges posed by security problems in the state.
The lecturers stated this during peaceful protest against the gruesome assassination of one of their colleague, Engineer Clement Faah.
Late Clement Faah, a father of seven, was assassinated along with his Canada-based friend at his country home in Yeghe, Gokana Local Government Area.
The deceased was until his death, on the 15th of February, 2011, the Director, Engineering Technology Department of the institution.
Clad in black cloths, the lecturers, who marched round the school premises and outside holiday placards with various inscriptions, such as’ “RSG secure our lives”, “Ogoni people should return to being brothers keepers”, “Govt, please investigate the destroyers of Engr. C.K. Faah.
Others inscriptions also urged the security agencies in the state to bring to book those responsible for the murder.
Addressing the protesters, the Rector of the College, Dr. Halliary Wordu condemned the assassination, describing it as inhuman.
Dr. Wordu, who challenged the police to unravel the circumstances surrounding the act, however, pleaded with the lecturers to ensure that the protest is peaceful.
Also speaking, the Rivers Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Barrister Independence Enyindah described the incident as a great loss to the state.
In an emotion laden tone, he said the assassins have forcefully separated Engr. Faah from his seven under-aged children and a house wife, who are now at the mercy of the society.
He warned that this incident “must not be among the unresolved murders in this state”.
