NDE Trains 50 Unemployed Youths In Edo
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced the training of 50 unemployed Edo youths on agricultural production and distribution system.
The Director General of NDE, Mr Nasir Mohammed, said this at the launch of the training yesterday in Benin.
Mohammed said that the initiative was intended to help provide more profitable farm and environmental stewardship.
He said that the programme would involve arable and livestock production for three months.
Mohammed, who was represented by the acting State Coordinator, Mrs Ayo Edegbai, further said that the training would enhance the quality of life of farm families and communities.
He encouraged participants to key into the programme, saying that agriculture and its value chain would help to constantly put food on their table.
He said it would also help them to live above poverty level and become employers of labour.
The NDE boss described the training as a paradigm shift to a more sustainable Agricultural Training Scheme.
He said: “The training will be a great milestone in our employment generation and poverty eradication programmes in the nation.
“The diversification of the economy, which is a major policy of the Federal Government, gives agriculture a pride of place right now.
“Also, we all know the agricultural sector can easily mop up the unemployment situation in our land.’’
Mohammed affirmed the commitment of NDE to empower various categories of unemployed and vulnerable persons through its various programmes.
According to him, the empowerment comes under the Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme, initiated in line with the directorate’s objective of creating jobs.
