Ondo Earmarks N5bn For Pension, Gratuity Arrears

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State says the state will commit about five billion naira to the payment of pension and gratuity arrears owed the state retired public servants since 2011.
The state Head of Service, Mr Dare Aragbaiye, made this disclosure yesterday in Akure while addressing newsmen in his office.
According to him, the retired workers now receive their pension at the same time with serving workers in the state, which is a clear departure from what happens previously.
Aragbaiye lauded Akeredolu for making the payment of salary and allowances of workers a topmost priority.
He added that the promotion of deserving public servants was being conducted earlier than what it used to be, adding that promotion letters and financial benefits were promptly released to the beneficiaries.
Aragbaiye said the list of available vacancies had been compiled across the sectors of the public service, with a view to employing new workers to re-energise the civil service.
He, therefore, called on the people within and outside the public service to continue to pay their taxes and levies promptly.
“This will cushion the effect of the dwindling allocation from the federation account as well as boost the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to enhance more developmental projects,” he said.
