2 Corpers Die In Delta
Two members of the 2010 Batch ‘A’ National Youth Service corps (NYSC), members in Delta State have lost their lives during the service year, while one is declared missing.
The state NYSC Director, Mr. Chris Ngbemena disclosed this during the passing out of 2,363 corps members who served in the state, on Thursday in Asaba, adding that beside the deaths, about 98 per cent of the corpers rendered their service diligently.
Mr. Ngbemena also revealed that many of the coppers were outstanding in Community Service and particularly paid tribute to a copper who served in Etua Community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area for constructing a bus stop stand.
Five members received the state award, while 16 others were given letters of recommendation.
The Director, who expressed appreciation to the state government for giving logistic support to the scheme, however, appealed to the state government to pay the outstanding one month allowance to the outgoing corpers.
Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, in his speech promised to reward any corper who excelled in Community Development Service.
The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Lawrence Osiegbu, said he has passion for Bus Stop stands in all routes used by Delta State Transport Service, saying that it will encourage the patronage of the transport service.
He noted that the transport industry is thriving in the state and promised that more vehicles would be bought to boost the state-owned Delta Line.
The Governor said corpers were not owed in the state, and explained that if they were owed at all, it will be for only February, which has not ended.
Dr Uduaghan, however, promised to look into the report in case there were some who have not received their January allowance.
