Summit: Rivers Youths Chart Path To Peace, Dev
Thousands of youths from all the 23 local government areas in Rivers State under the umbrella of New Generation Rivers Youth have held a mega summit at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUOE), Port Harcourt, where they set fresh agenda towards achieving lasting peace and sustainable development in the state.
The educative summit, with resource persons drawn from diverse backgrounds, dissected issues in the theme: “Redirecting The Minds Of The Youths Towards Prioritising The Progress And Development Of Rivers State”, at the event, last weekend.
Speaking, the Convener of the New Generation Rivers Youth, Bright Jossy, explained that the main objective of the group was to promote and defend the interest of Rivers State at all levels of socio-political and economic interaction in the country.
According to him, “This summit is not politically-motivated, no! Elections are over. It’s high time the Rivers State youth come together to defend and protect the common interests of the state, and attract investors to the state.
“It’s necessary and our obligation to stop the de-marketing of Rivers State, irrespective of the political party we belong. The New Generation Rivers Youth will promote and market Rivers State to the world, and also defend it from those who try or want to de-market Rivers State”, he added.
The keynote speaker and Director, University of Port Harcourt Business School, Prof Okey Onuchukwu, urged Rivers youth to build on their self-confidence and productive capacities to drive development of the state.
He encouraged the youth to acquire skills and think outside the box, as he challenged politicians in the state to invest in building factories in their respective villages to create jobs and reduce youth unemployment.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant on Social Media to Governor Nyesom Wike, Hon Marshal Obuzor charged Rivers youth to be patriotic in all they do.
According to him, “Youth development is very paramount, because when a youth develops him/herself, the state automatically gets developed too.
