Expert Tasks Journalists On Developmental Reporting
The former Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Stella Okunna, has urged journalists to expose ills in the society and focus on developmental reporting.
Okunna, who made the call in interview with The Tide source yesterday in Awka, said journalism was empowered by law to truly inform and educate the public on all facts of life through its factual reportage.
“Journalists should always summon courage and speak up against ills in the society irrespective of the personality involved to make the society better.
“Media workers should see themselves as watchdogs of the society and always apply professionalism in their duties to correct any abnormality,” she said.
Okunna said that journalists should make the public to be accountable to their actions and place a hold on actions of the citizens through investigative journalism and factual reporting.
She said that journalists had through their various contributions accelerated development of the country, urging them to continue informing the public on daily happenings and exposing the ills for necessary actions to be taken by governments.
Okunna said that journalists are indispensable tool for socio-economic development of any nation, advising the public to support media professionals in the efforts to enhance the national development.
