NPA MD Seeks Co-operation Among Agencies
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Omar Suleiman, has recommended an improved strategy in the sharing of security information amongst stakeholders in the nation’s Maritime industry.
Such an improvement and dissemination of security related information, according to the Managing Director, should be aimed at reducing the panic and tension such information often generate amongst the general public.
Suleiman made the recommendation when he received the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General KTJ Minimah.
The managing Director, who recalled the news coverage that emerged after the recent interception of large quantities of ammunition at the APMT terminal of the Lagos Port Complex (LPC), lamented the negative press which the event generated, adding that such reports were capable of sending wrong signals locally and internationally.
The MD stated that NPA Management is working round the clock to strengthen the security of the port locations in the country to forestall any future occurrence.
Earlier, Major General KTJ Minimah expressed shock at the huge arms cache reportedly discovered at APMT terminal of LPC and wondered the extent of damage it would have caused if it was not timely intercepted.
He assured the Managing Director of his preparedness to work in concert with other security agencies in the area of intelligence, should the assistance of his command be needed.
